94% of packaged foods may face warnings under nutrient limits; FSSAI ex-chief Pawan Kumar Agarwal urges SC for phased food warning rollout

Former FSSAI chief Pawan Kumar Agarwal has urged the Supreme Court to consider a phased rollout of front-of-pack food warnings, warning that the proposed nutrient thresholds could place labels on more than 94% of packaged foods and dilute their impact. His foundation suggested interim thresholds followed by stricter limits over three to five years, with mandatory labelling proposed from July 1, 2027.
