Karnataka rejects Kasturirangan report in current form, seeks ground survey of Western Ghats

Karnataka’s legislature unanimously rejected the Kasturirangan Committee report in its current form, arguing that the proposed Western Ghats restrictions could affect livelihoods, agriculture and infrastructure. The state plans a retired-judge-led physical survey of the proposed ESA areas and an all-party delegation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi before the Centre’s September 27 deadline.
