Headscarf not an essential part of Islam: Allahabad HC rejects student’s plea to wear hijab with school uniform

Allahabad High Court has dismissed a minor student’s plea seeking permission to wear a hijab with her school uniform, saying she failed to provide sufficient factual or legal material to establish it as an essential religious practice in Islam. Muslim clerics have criticised the verdict and said hijab should be allowed with prescribed school uniforms.
