Copper producers seek GST cut to 5 per cent as record prices lock up cash

Indian copper producers are seeking a GST cut to 5% from 18%, saying record copper prices are increasing working-capital requirements across the supply chain. The proposed tax change could unlock up to $3.6 billion, according to association president Rohit Pathak, as producers and downstream buyers grapple with higher costs and leaner inventories.
