Muskoxen, ancient Arctic survivors, maintain healthy grasslands which store vital carbon. These large herbivores face threats from climate change and increased predation. Historically, overhunting pushed muskoxen populations toward extinction in many regions. International efforts have aided recovery, but enforcement remains a serious concern.
