Australian couple bought a cattle farm and planted 34,000 trees. Years later, koalas and wildlife are returning

In 2020, Australian couple Brett and Lisa Vercoe bought a 30-hectare former cattle property near Coffs Harbour in New South Wales and began restoring its native forest. With support from North Coast Local Land Services, they have planted more than 34,000 trees across nearly 17.5 hectares, with the aim of rebuilding rainforest and connected habitat for koalas and other wildlife. The project has already seen sightings of threatened species, including the giant barred frog and eastern freshwater cod.
