Iran appoints former Revolutionary Guards chief Mohsen Rezaei as top national security official

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has appointed former Revolutionary Guards commander Mohsen Rezaei to head the Supreme National Security Council, replacing Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr. Rezaei, who led the Guards during most of the Iran-Iraq war, previously served in senior political and military roles and has stressed the strategic importance of controlling the Strait of Hormuz.
