Horatti resigns as Karnataka Legislative Council chairman, clears way for Saleem Ahmed

Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti resigned on Friday, clearing the way for senior Congress MLC Saleem Ahmed to take over the Cabinet-rank post. The AICC nominated Ahmed after he missed out on a ministerial berth in the recent Cabinet expansion. The Council is expected to elect veteran actor-politician Umashree as Deputy Chairperson on August 14, followed by the election for the Chairman’s post.
