India’s import dependence continues to be shaped by economic growth, manufacturing base: Govt to Parl

India imported goods worth $131.63 billion from China in FY26, accounting for nearly 17% of total merchandise imports, the government told Rajya Sabha. It said Chinese imports include critical minerals, intermediate goods, capital equipment and technologies required by sectors such as clean energy, electronics, pharmaceuticals and infrastructure.
