UNESCO grants World Heritage status to Sarnath

Sarnath, the ancient Buddhist site where Lord Buddha is believed to have delivered his first sermon, has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, becoming India's 45th World Heritage Site. The recognition highlights India's rich civilisational heritage and is expected to boost Buddhist tourism, cultural diplomacy and global awareness of the country's Buddhist legacy.
