West Bengal to make Bengali mandatory for all government work from Sept 1

West Bengal will mandate Bengali for all state government work starting September 1, 2026. This decision follows advice from Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding language use. Bengali will be used in citizen services, digital systems, and public communication channels. Official correspondence with the central government can use Bengali and Hindi.
