Grey Hornbills at home in Gir landscape after over 60 years

Gujarat Forest Department achieved success with Indian Grey Hornbill reintroduction. Forty birds were released in two phases between 2021 and 2023. These hornbills have established territories and successfully produced offspring. Their shrinking home ranges and stable habitat use show progress. This indicates the program is moving towards a self-sustaining population.
