Former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin praised Rishabh Pant for having one of the best defences in world cricket, despite his poor shot-selection during the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Ashwin highlighted Pant's ability to avoid getting out while defending. Pant's performances during the Australia tour were inconsistent. He scored 255 runs in the series.
