The fastest sprinter in the Olympic pool on Tuesday morning was Cal junior Jack Alexy.
Alexy qualified for the 100-meter freestyle semifinals after finishing first out of 79 swimmers in the opening heats.
Alexy, a junior at Cal, finished in 47.57, not far off the Olympic record of 46.92, set last week by Chinese swimmer Zhanle Pan.
The semifinals are at 11:30 a.m. PT on Tuesday and the finals are Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. PT.
Alexy already won a gold medal in the 4×100 freestyle relay last week.
