Old fishing nets pose a significant environmental threat as they contribute to ocean plastic pollution and ghost fishing. The Net-Works project has recycled around 41 tonnes of these nets into new carpet tiles since 2012. It partners with local fishing communities to collect and repurpose used nets, which are turned into nylon thread. Despite this innovative solution, only a fraction of the total waste is being processed effectively.
