Smuggled guns, a deadly prison shootout and 10 deaths: The unanswered questions surrounding a riot in one of Mexico’s most violent states plagued with cartel rivalries and prison security failures

A violent incident occurred at El Castillo Penitentiary Centre in Mazatlán, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries. The conflict led to the deaths of nine prisoners and one visitor during a shootout. Following the incident, military and law enforcement were deployed to maintain order and conduct an investigation.
