Colorado began removing non-native brook trout from two mountain creeks in 2011; 13 years later, rare native cutthroat trout had increased more than 11-fold

Over a span of 13 years in Grand County, Colorado, dedicated conservation efforts have led to a remarkable surge in cutthroat trout populations, rising from 123 to an astonishing 1,425 fish in select streams. This success stems from the strategic removal of invasive brook trout through electrofishing and the introduction of genetically modified fish.
