WHO says medicines, surgery not first-line treatment for childhood obesity
The World Health Organization has released guidelines on treating obesity among children and adolescents. It emphasizes structured diets, physical activity, and behavioral changes as primary treatment methods. Weight-loss medications are not recommended for children aged zero to nine years. For adolescents, these medications may only be considered after conventional methods fail to deliver results. Mental health support is also crucial as obesity often leads to stigma and emotional issues.
