US midterm elections take place halfway through a president’s four-year term, with all 435 House seats and roughly one-third of Senate seats contested. The 2026 elections will determine which party controls Congress, shaping President Donald Trump’s ability to advance legislation, while voters also elect governors, state legislators, mayors and other officials.
