In 2021, Danish partners launched DecomBlades to recycle retired wind turbine blades. 5 years later, 40 tonnes of recovered glass fibre had entered new blades in Taiwan

Since launching in 2021, Denmark’s DecomBlades project has turned retired wind turbine materials into resources for new turbines. Its pyrolysis process recovered glass fibre that Siemens Gamesa used in 115-metre blades for Ørsted’s offshore project in Taiwan. About 40 tonnes have entered production, while material passports could make future blade recycling easier and more precise.
