On Isle Royale National Park, wildlife managers achieved a remarkable feat by successfully reintroducing wolves in 2018. Since then, these wolves have formed packs and have been reproducing annually, reaching a population of at least twenty-seven wolves by April 2023. Nevertheless, the genetic diversity of the population poses a significant challenge for its sustainability, especially as warmer winters threaten to impede gene flow from the mainland.
