Cheap liquor, porous border: 2nd hooch tragedy in Bundelkhand's Madhya Pradesh belt with 'UP link'

Eleven people died and fifty-four others fell ill after consuming spurious liquor in Sagar district. Investigators suspect the illicit alcohol was supplied from Lalitpur in neighboring Uttar Pradesh. This incident mirrors a similar hooch tragedy in Chhatarpur district back in February 2021. Many victims experienced symptoms like blurred vision and dizziness after drinking the fake liquor. Officials have suspended and transferred excise department personnel following the deaths.
