Centre defers Manipur census; Kukis oppose 'NRC before census' call given by Meiteis, Nagas

The Centre has postponed census operations in Manipur following civil society demands. This decision came after Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level review meeting. The Manipur High Court had previously put a hold on census-related activities. Various communities seek an NRC revision before the census to prevent legitimizing illegal immigrants. However, Kuki-Zo leadership and their CSOs have voiced opposition to this demand.
