Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated El Nino's impact on kharif production is unlikely to be significant. Rainfall has been adequate for crops across most of the country this year. The shortfall in kharif sowing has narrowed considerably and is expected to reduce further. Deficient rainfall in some regions will not affect overall kharif output at this stage. The government is also preparing new Seeds and Pesticides Management Bills.
