Kazakhstan to hold first Parliamentary elections on August 23 under new Constitution

Kazakhstan is holding a national election on August 23 to form its first Kurultai. This unicameral parliament replaces the former bicameral legislature after a new constitution. Voters will select 145 representatives from seven registered party lists nationwide. Parties must achieve a five percent threshold to share the available seats. The newly elected Kurultai will legislate and oversee the government's functions.
