In 2023, New Zealand scientists propagated a species once reduced to just two plants. Now, hundreds are being planted making it one of the country's biggest restoration successes

Conservationists have successfully revived one of New Zealand's rarest plants. About 250 Craspedia argentea seedlings are now planted at Mahaka Katia Scientific Reserve. This effort involved years of careful hand-pollination and propagation by dedicated botanists. The plants were derived from just two seeds collected after the wild population dwindled. This initiative aims to restore not only a species but an entire ecosystem.
