SC reserves order on Abu Salem's plea for release after 25 years in jail

The Supreme Court on Monday reserved its order on gangster Abu Salem's plea seeking release from prison, in which he argued that he has completed the maximum 25-year jail term permitted under the India-Portugal extradition agreement. During the hearing, the bench questioned his claim that remission could be counted towards the 25-year limit, while Salem's counsel argued his undertrial custody and earned remission should be considered. The Bombay High Court had earlier rejected his plea, saying the 25-year term would end only in November 2030.
