Alex Murdaugh ranks among South Carolina’s worst tax deadbeats while awaiting new murder trial

As Alex Murdaugh awaits a new trial in the murders of his wife and son, the disgraced former attorney is facing a separate seven-figure problem.

Murdaugh owes more than $1.6 million in unpaid South Carolina taxes, penalties and interest, ranking him among the state’s biggest individual tax delinquents, according to newly published records.

The South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) listed "Murdaugh, Richard" as owing $1,630,201.02 in its latest quarterly report of top delinquent taxpayers, published July 16.
