'Jumping ship': House Dem finds exit strategy after SCOTUS ruling shifts advantage to GOP
Democratic Rep. Cleo Fields of Louisiana announced Tuesday he will not seek re-election to Congress after a Supreme Court ruling and new Louisiana congressional map reshaped his district in Republicans’ favor.
Fields said in a statement announcing his plans he will instead run to fill the unexpired term for the state Senate in Louisiana’s 14th District, saying he feels his "calling to serve the people is better put to use back home than here in D.C."
"I intend to answer that call," Fields added.
