India joins WTO's agreement on fisheries subsidies

India has formally accepted the WTO agreement on fisheries subsidies. This pact prohibits government support for illegal fishing and over-exploitation of fish stocks. The agreement protects small-scale fishers and promotes sustainable marine resource management. It also disciplines harmful subsidies given to large industrial fishing fleets. India's aquaculture exports remain outside this agreement's scope.
