Lok Sabha admits resolution opposing ordinance to hike number of Supreme Court judges

Parliament will soon consider a bill to formalize increased Supreme Court judge numbers. This legislation replaces an ordinance which raised the strength from 34 to 38 judges. Opposition members have formally registered their disapproval of the ordinance in the Lok Sabha. The government aims to pass this bill with a simple majority in Parliament. This move follows the recent appointment of five new judges to the apex court.
