A war veteran and team found Japan's lost WWII gold submarine after more than 50 years, in 1995, but its 2 tons of gold remains missing
A Japanese submarine, the I-52, sank in 1944 carrying two tons of gold intended for Nazi Germany. Lost for decades, its wreck was finally located in 1995, over 10 miles from its recorded position. While personal artifacts were recovered, the valuable gold remains on the ocean floor, a costly and complex salvage operation awaiting.
