West Bengal forms panel to draft UCC bill

West Bengal's Chief Minister announced that a draft bill for a Uniform Civil Code will be presented to the state cabinet on Thursday for approval. A committee, headed by retired Supreme Court Judge Ranjana Prakash Desai, has been formed to prepare the legislation, which will be modelled on similar bills in other states. The proposed law aims to unify personal and family laws, with Scheduled Castes and tribes exempted.
