Bandar Abbas sits on Iran's southern coast, positioned at the northern entrance of the Strait of Hormuz. The strait's narrowest point lies roughly 60 to 70 kilometres away, close enough that whoever controls Bandar Abbas effectively holds a hand on the throat of global oil supply.
