In the 1930s, workers clearing plantation land in Costa Rica accidentally revealed mysterious stone spheres from a buried pre-Columbian world
Giant stone spheres were found in southern Costa Rica during the 1930s and 1940s. These spheres were part of a larger settlement network in the Diquís Delta. The discovery revealed paved areas, mounds, and habitation zones. While mathematically accurate, the spheres' significance and use remain a mystery. The same efforts that unearthed them also damaged surrounding archaeological sites.
