Himanta Biswa Sarma resigns as Assam CM, paving way for formation of new govt

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his cabinet have resigned. This follows the BJP-led NDA's victory in the assembly elections. The Governor has accepted the resignation. Sarma will continue as caretaker Chief Minister. The new government's oath-taking ceremony is expected after May 11. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to the event.
