More research links artificial sweetener erythritol to stroke risk

Erythritol is widely used to sweeten sugar-free foods including snacks, drinks and energy bars. A zero-calorie sugar alcohol almost as sweet as sucrose, it doesn't spike blood sugar levels and is popular with low-carb dieters. But a recent study found that it might cause blood clots in the brain, following on from earlier research that associated it with a higher risk of heart attack or stroke. — Read the rest
