Emerald Fennell's 'Wuthering Heights' Pushes Bad Taste to New Limits
Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights is an extremely moist and adolescent piece of work. With Saltburn (2023) and now this, Fennell’s brilliant debut Promising Young Woman (2020) is looking more and more like a fluke.
Wuthering Heights Is Exceedingly Immature
Adapted from Emily Brontë’s classic novel, Fennell focuses most of her attention on the story's first half. She also changes the race of Heathcliff, played here by Jacob Elordi, and in doing so removes practically all of the social commentary in Brontë original piece.
