Congress awards Davanagere South ticket to Shamnur clan, stirs Muslim leaders’ anger

The Congress party has named Samarth Shamnur as its candidate for the Davanagere South bypoll. This decision comes after intense lobbying from Muslim leaders. Shamnur is the grandson of the late Lingayat leader Shamnur Shivashankarappa. The party leadership held discussions with community leaders. The bypoll is scheduled for April 9. In Bagalkot, Umesh Meti was chosen as the candidate.
