Trump administration threatens broadcasters over Iran war coverage

United States broadcasting regulators warned television and radio outlets that licences face risk if reporting on the war with Iran contains what officials call distortions, prompting criticism from politicians and press freedom advocates.

The warning came from Federal Communications Commission chairman Brendan Carr, who wrote on social media that broadcasters that spread “hoaxes and news distortions” about the conflict must change course before licence renewals.
