UN Security Council to Vote on Short Extension of UNAMA Mission in Afghanistan
The United Nations Security Council is expected to vote on a draft resolution to extend the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) for another three months. The vote comes as member states continue discussions on the future role of the UN mission in the country.
According to the draft resolution released on Saturday, the mission would be extended from March 16 until June 17, 2026. The shorter extension reflects ongoing debate among Security Council members over the appropriate length of the mandate.
