Akrotiri evacuation order suspended

The evacuation order for the British Akrotiri base and its surrounding areas has now been suspended, the interior ministry said on Friday.

“Despite the end of the evacuation status, the area remains on heightened alert and the situation will be constantly reassessed, with the aim of taking timely measures should a new need arise,” the ministry said.

It added that the mayor or Kourion and the deputy mayor of Akrotiri have already been informed about the decision.
