Mifepristone, one of two drugs in the cocktail that is used to cause chemical abortions, has Food and Drug Administration approval for that purpose.

But the side effects are numerous and serious. Women have been subjected to its injuries without their knowledge. Deaths have occurred.

And now a plan is being prepared for Congress to consider that would withdraw that approval.
