Pretty in Pink’s prom soundtrack was one for the ages

John Hughes will always be remembered for being a master of the teen romantic comedy. No other American filmmaker or screenwriter captured the spirit of 1980s suburban teenage drama with more fascination or sincerity. While films like Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Pretty in Pink are far from perfect movies—with some moments that haven’t aged well in terms of political correctness—all of them powerfully tap into the exhilaration, disillusionment, and confusion of coming of age at that time.
