FIFA has “complete confidence” in Mexico to host World Cup matches
February 26 – FIFA says it is closely monitoring the security situation in Mexico but insists it has “complete confidence” the country will successfully host 2026 World Cup matches despite a recent surge in unrest and violence.
The killing of cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as ‘El Mencho’, sparked violent reprisals across Mexico, with the Mexican Football Federation postponing several domestic fixtures, including Sunday’s Liga MX match between Querétaro and Juárez FC.
