Lilongwe imposes pork ban
Lilongwe District Council has imposed an immediate ban on the movement, slaughter, and sale of pigs and pork products following a surge in African swine fever cases.
The directive, signed by District Commissioner Stallichi Mwambiwa, confirms the outbreak was first detected on 30 January 2025 in Traditional Authority Njewa.
Since then, 166 pigs have fallen ill and 135 have died across nine kraals in the affected area.
