Merz warns US against going alone at Munich summit

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz told the Munich Security Conference that the rules-based international order “no longer exists” and warned that the United States lacks the strength to act alone in a period of rivalry between major powers.

Opening the annual gathering of security leaders on Friday, Merz addressed remarks to President Donald Trump and senior US officials in the audience.

“In the era of great power rivalry, even the United States will not be powerful enough to go it alone,” he said.
