Govt flags backlog of 24.6 lakh ITRs pending beyond 90 days

More than 24 lakh income tax returns remain unprocessed for over 90 days. This is out of nearly 8.80 crore returns filed for Assessment Year 2025-26 by February 4, 2026. The NUDGE campaign has led to 1.11 crore updated returns and Rs 6,976.50 crore in additional taxes paid. The total revenue impact of the campaign reached Rs 8,810.59 crore.
