German carnival season expected to generate €2bn in revenue

Germany’s carnival season, whose celebrations will peak this week, is set to generate nearly 2 billion euros ($2.36 billion) in revenue this year, according to a study by the German Economic Institute (IW) seen by Reuters.

Sectors ranging from hotels and bars to costume retailers are set to benefit from the festivities, said the IW.

That’s because of this year’s shorter season, reduced by 15 days due to Easter coming earlier this year, in early April.
