PM Modi flags highway quality woes, sets May deadline for fixes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ordered the road transport ministry to improve highway quality by May. Tougher rules will hold contractors accountable and penalize those with poor performance or frequent lawsuits. The ministry will also prevent subcontractors without approval and focus highway development on economic hubs. A review will address why high-speed corridors are not meeting speed targets.
